Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, raced to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix leaving behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

“I’m spent! That was a tough race, I have such great support here and we had a great start,” Hamilton said after the win. “The team had never given up faith and belief in me and (team mate) Valtteri (Bottas). That was the longest race in my life and its a blessing. I’m just blessed.”

Meanwhile it was not just Hamilton who was celebrating. The organisers too were elated with the crowd turn out for this event. According to a statement from GP, “The eleventh edition of the night race has grown from strength to strength, with the Marina Bay Street Circuit opening its gates this weekend to over 263,000 attendees, an increase of 3.5% in average attendance over the past ten races,” it said.

Race promoter Singapore GP said that this was the result of the “buoyant profile” of Formula 1 as well as the variety of products introduced this year, such as the new lifestyle facility called Twenty3, enhanced Paddock Club and hospitality suites, family-friendly initiatives such as Pit Stop @ Empress Lawn as well as entertainment, including Jay Chou, Liam Gallagher, The Killers, Dua Lipa, Martin Garrix and Simply Red.

Meanwhile Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) S. Iswaran had revealed that the 10 years of staging the event had led to more than 450,000 international visitors, who have contributed about $1.4 billion in incremental tourism receipts. He also noted that the annual cost had come down to $135 million from $150 million.
